I wanted to make a small page about this game series cuz I quite enoy it from time to time... x3

You can notice this little dude is a bit everywhere here, cuz I like him a lot he's the devil~

This site is made like a long thread, you can navigate it through the links bellow or just scroll through !

But what even is magical drop you ask ? Well it's a puzzle game series that kinda begin in the early nineties, made by data east, I guess their answer to tetris !
Edit: While still somehow true, the game concept comes from an old dos game called drop-drop made by a company called Russ ?
See for yourself...

Found out by seeing Russ ltd on the title screen of the first game... Definitly rings a bell though, looking at both games...

In the game you frantically get the "magical" drops up the screen and when you match them with 2 others they dissapear, you can make really long combos to send tons of lines to your opponent... It's fun !

The characters are based upon the tarot cards (The tarot of Marseille precisely, I know it cuz it's french x3) and I like they design quite a bit even tho it's obvious some of them were designed by more horny people...

The book opens... (Magical drop (JP)/ Chain reastion (NA-EU), 1995)

The arcade version's title screen

I won't lie, that first magical drop game isn't one that I look on fondly for the reason that I only played the super nintendo port on a emulator... Playing it again that way... Yeah it's rough...
The game is what you expect from a puzzle game of that era, I won't lie I really like the design and overall menus and stuff! Just the snes port of the game is soo... hard from the get go that the first matches take forever to finish and don't feel good at all...

After playing the arcade version... Not gonna lie I don't know what happened to that snes version, even though it looks the same don't be fooled, the games plays wayyy differently... -w- I'd say graphically while going for a different vibe, I truly adore the way it looks and some characters look way better in this version and later sequels.
(I completely prefer the fool on this version than the others >w<)

The boys (and gals x3)

Arcade version, the snes version got the actual characters holding the drops !

So I played mostly the arcade game since it's way easier for some reason ? I guess since it's pretty short most people can finish it quickly. This one's nice ! The snes version's arcade version is wayyy harder and feels less good to play. A shame really !
The snes version has a puzzle mode which is because of that the best part of it for me, the infinite mode is okay but would be more interesting if the way the game played felt better...

Finished the game as the fool, ngl he's wayy cuter in this artstyle than in the later ones

This game's been ported on multiple systems in japan but the only way you could have experienced it in the west is either in an arcade maybe or with the playstation release on the bonus CD.
It's called "Magical drop plus 1 !" (the exclamation point is in there for real) and is definitly better than the snes release. Though as the game is pretty rare it's pretty hard to get. (Not super expensive though !)

As a summary, Friendship ended with Devil, Now Fool is my best friend ! x3

Arcade version :

SNES version :

That's enough for magical drop 1 right there's no other weird versions out there... Right ?!?

3D CG cover art sure is a thing

Oh... Everyone , here's *sight* Sega saturn magical drop...
When I saw that abox art I was kinda horifies to how it looks ? It reminds me of those terrible disney rip off ps2 bootlegs...
I guess in 1995 it was fine though just... didn't age well...

At least the game wasn't lying on it's cover art for the artstyle

There's... some characters I can recognize, the fool and the devil ? The rest is... something ?
It's more like a parody now which I'm not a fan of ngl...
And also it's got it's CG artstyle that kinda stinks ? Again my opinion !

It's magical drop alright

For the gameplay it's basically the snes game playing a bit smoother with a worse artstyle and characters
(even tho the voice lines are the same).
Same game modes, not sure if the gameplay is better or worse than the snes version...
Since the saturn emulation I used could'nt use my controller, and magical drop on keyboard is definitly a thing I guess ?

Sega saturn version..? :

Add half a star if it plays well on an actual controller, but it sure ain't gonna be arcade version sadly...
Let's say this version makes the aversion I got for other entries with weak art awkward now :/
You'll see whenever I get to it !

This page is still on construction... I'll talk more about the games when I'll replay them chronologically... x3

Take a button as a souvenir !
